The Tangible Dream

Monday was finally the day, after seemingly eons of planning, to set off on our dream trip around the world. With an emotional goodbye to our families at Heathrow, we also bid farewell to British soil for the next year. Next stop: Los Angeles!

Once we got to LAX, we Ubered our way to our home for the next couple of nights: an Airbnb where we were warmly greeted by our hosts, Rodney and Sandra.

Tuesday was spent sightseeing in LA; we visited the Original Farmers Market and the Grove, an upmarket shopping area designed in the style of English shopping streets. We then walked up Hollywood Boulevard to check out the walk of fame. In the evening was the main event for the day: a baseball match at Dodger Stadium. This was preceded by a visit to Philippe’s, the birthplace of the “french dip” sandwich, an iconic Angeleno foodstuff involving a mini baguette dipped in gravy, sandwiching generous slices of meat.

It was fun seeing how passionate our fellow baseball-watchers were getting! Bizarrely, the match had to be cancelled midway, due to a burst water main flooding the pitch. Still, it was cool to see a few innings, and we got a little extra sleep before our big day ahead: picking up our campervan!
